Short Courses

As part of its role in supporting surgical education, the Royal College of Surgeons of England has established processes for the accreditation of short surgery-related courses of five days in length or less. These processes enable the College to verify where courses external to the college have been developed and run in compliance with the College’s criteria and standards for course development and delivery.

Course Accreditation will confirm that the educational content, teaching methods, learning aims, and learning outcomes are sound, and that the course providers employ suitable quality-assurance practices. As part of the Course Accreditation process, a panel visit from the College will be necessary to review the delivery of the course.

Benefits of Course Accreditation

Having a course accredited will demonstrate that the course meets the standards as defined by the Royal College of Surgeons, and that it offers a high-quality learning experience. Recognition of these factors may assist in attracting course delegates. Accredited courses will also receive the following benefits:

  • Peer review from a panel of leading surgeons
  • Use of the RCS Logo on course materials and website
  • Use of the strap line 'Accredited by the Royal College of Surgeons of England'
  • Listing on the RCS Website
  • Listing in RCS Bulletin
  • Use of RCS online participant evaluation, SCOPE
  • Applicable courses will be awarded with Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points as part of Course Accreditation
